Lawrenceville, NJ – The International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) journal, Value in Health, was ranked #1 in two categories, for the year 2004, by the ISI Journal Citation Reports® (JCR). The first ever impact factor of the young, 8-year-old journal was 3.657.

Value in Health led all other journals listed both in the Health Care Sciences and Services category in the JCR Science Edition and in the Health Policy & Services category in the JCR Social Sciences Edition.

The journal impact factor is the average number of times articles from the journal published over a two year time period have been cited in the subsequent year. In particular, the impact factor for 2004 is calculated by dividing the number of citations in 2004 to articles published in the two previous years, 2002 and 2003, divided by the total number of articles published in 2002 and 2003.

"As many of you know, our society's key roles are to foster excellent research, to provide continuous education about health economic evaluations and outcomes research, to communicate with health care decision makers and providers and to be a truly International society,” said Lieven Annemans, PhD, Mman, Professor & Senior Consultant at Ghent University, HEDM and IMS Health, and 2004- 2005 ISPOR President. “Our Journal, Value in Health, has a special position within ISPOR since it fulfills all four roles. Especially the consistent focus on quality and nothing but quality has been rewarded now by this excellent impact factor. We are very grateful to Joel Hay, PhD (Value in Health First Editor-in-Chief), to Josephine Mauskopf, PhD, and to all the authors, editors and reviewers for their marvelous performance."

"We are very excited by the high impact factor for Value in Health" said Josephine Mauskopf, PhD, Vice President at RTI Health Solutions and Editor-in-Chief of Value in Health. "We already knew that we were getting high quality papers submitted to the journal and that we have excellent editorial staff and reviewers. This impact factor tells us that all the hard work by the authors, editors, and reviewers has led to papers published in Value in Health that are viewed as important examples of new work in Health Economics and Outcomes Research."

Value In Health (ISSN 1098-3015) publishes papers, concepts, and ideas that advance the field of pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research and help health care leaders to make decisions that are solidly evidence-based. The journal is published bi-monthly and has a regular readership of over 3,000 clinicians, decision-makers, and researchers worldwide. Papers in the journal are also accessed regularly through Synergy, the online journals service from Blackwell Publishing. Synergy holds the content for most of Blackwell's journals, the majority of which are published on behalf of international scholarly and professional societies.

ISPOR is a nonprofit, international organization that strives to translate pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research into practice to ensure that society allocates scarce health care resources wisely, fairly, and efficiently.
